A third-generation grapegrower, Rich learned the art of farming on the family ranch from his father and grandfather. He completed his degree in viticulture from Fresno State University in 1987 and has diverse experience in the wine industry over a 35 year career. During that time he continued to help farm the family vineyards and expanded the family's grape growing business to include winemaking. Rich and his wife Shannon established Salvestrin Wine Co in 1994 and constructed the family estate winery in 2001.
Since 2006 Rich has been focused on the family vineyard and winery's growth and success.

Carolanne James
Winemaker, Salvestrin

Carolanne James
Assistant Winemaker
Carolanne James’ journey into the world of winemaking began with a deep curiosity about the science behind
the vine. After earning her degree in Cell and Molecular Biology, she ventured to the vineyards of southern
France, where her fascination with winemaking quickly blossomed into a passion. Immersed in the rhythms of
the vineyard and winery, she found herself captivated by the intricate dance between nature and science.
Determined to deepen her understanding, Carolanne pursued advanced studies in enology at the University of
Montpellier. Her time in France was rich with hands-on experience, as she worked across renowned regions such as Faugères, Beaujolais, Provence, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, honing her skills and expanding her knowledge.
Seeking to broaden her horizons further, Carolanne embarked on a southern hemisphere harvest in Chile before making her way to Napa Valley in 2015. Her first harvest at Staglin Family Vineyard in Rutherford was a pivotal experience, leading her to roles at Tamber Bey Vineyards in Calistoga and Fontanella Family Winery on Mt.
Veeder.
Most recently, she contributed her talents to Newton Vineyard on Spring Mountain. Carolanne joined the Salvestrin team in June of 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience from some of the world's most esteemed wine regions. She was promoted to Winemaker in June of 2025 and we are thrilled to work with and learn from her.
